Beetles are a good pattern to use during the later summer months. Fish it during the day when there is nothing else happening on the surface.

Step By Step:
|
Start thread and clean a small clump of black deer hair. Secure the hair by the butt end to the top of the shank, and wrap back to the bend.
|
Tie in a few strands of peacock herl, wrap forward as shown, and tie off.
|
Pull the hair over top of the body and tie off behind the eye.
|
Trim hair and whip finish
|
Clip a few hairs on each side at the back of the fly. Trim to length to form legs.
