This pattern is a local Michigan variation of a wolly bugger using a peacock herl for the body, originated by Ray Schmidt. Good for Trout, Steelhead, and even a Salmon or two.
Step By Step:
Start with a thread base.
Tie in black maribou for the tail, you can add a piece or two of black krystal flash into the tail if desired to give it a little flash.
Tie in you hackle feather from the tip and secure.
Tie in 4-5 strands of peacock herl.
Twist and wrap up to just behind the eye leaving enough room for the collar.
Palmer the hackle feather forward to just behind the eye,tie in a small piece of schlappen and wrap to form a collar, half hitch or whip finish, cement if desired.
