Had the day off today and went up to the Trenton Channel to check on upcoming fall walleye run. I knew I was early but I thought maybe this cold snap brought up the first couple fish. I also wanted to drive by the Huron.
As suspected the Huron would not have been worth fishing. It was slow, low, and dirty. The Detroit River was also as I suspected. I picked up two walleye and pullled off a couple more. #7 rapalas 8'-25' back on handline gear. I marked quite a few fish but I dont know how many were walleye and how many were bass. I caught about 30 smallmouths 6-14". They were almost as annoying as all the weeds still coming down the river. The shiners were not in there very good yet, so it looks like a couple more weeks before the catching gets really good (easy).

Brian,
You will have to come over and fish Muskegon Lake when that turns on...excellent chance at double digit throwbacks at night...Mo steelhead during the day

I've heard about the fall walleye over there. When is it usually? A little road trip sounds like a good early birthday present (Nov.27) to myself. I do very little of that kind of stuff since I've been finishing up this accouting degree. Auditing & Finance this semester and Advanced Accouting in winter. Then I'm done, and anything with fins & faethers better look out!
The trip does sound very tempting... |
