A buddy of mine is heading to Jamaica for his honeymoon and was looking to do some fishing. Has anybody been there, or know of the fishing opportunities it has to offer. Any info would be great.

Thanks
Greg

I've been to Jamaica twice [Ochos Rios and Negril] in winter, it's not the best island in the Carribean for angling opportunities. There's very few areas for flats style fishing [ie. wading the beaches], so what little action there is takes place offshore. Charters are relatively expensive [by island standards], and although you pick up the odd Kingfish or Wahoo, there is not a prolific fishery for billfish species off the coast. There are smaller boats that will take you out on the reef for snapper and grouper, for numbers that's probably the best bet.

My advice to your friend would be to enjoy the sun, sand, rum and herb, and of course, his bride - afterall it is his honeymoon. After being married for 25 years, I can say that a little investment up front, can pay bigger dividends down the road - in terms of getting fishing time in the future. Besides, once the shine is off the apple, he can take her to Abacos, Turks or Belize for "his" vacation.

A buddy of mine stayed at Montego Bay last year. Cudda and Jack Crevalle were easy pickins on the breaker. He used the shrimp from the all-inclusive bufftet to catch bait fish and tossed them out the same way everybody fishes the surf here in MI.
