I was thinking about making a trip over to OH and PA next week. Are there any camp sites near the vermillion, elk, walnut etc? I am a college student on a budget, so hotel costs might break the bank...

take er easy-

I know there is a camp ground near the Sterrettania exit off 90 in PA. Not sure what the exit number is. There's also a Best Western at the same exit, depending on your budget. If you are thinking of fishing Conneaut, there's a Days Inn right at the last exit on 90 in Ohio.

Forgot to mention. Those hotels aren't priced too high. A good portion of their business is fisherman just looking for a place to sleep.

I have not had luck with campgrounds that time of year over there. Check into Folley's though on Elk. I ended up at a truck stop, sleeping the car a few nights, but the hotel route is really a treat after being outside all day. I've stayed at a Travel Lodge just east of Cleveland off I90. There is one right on I90 around Painsville, maybe 1 or 2 exits west of there. From that locale, it is about 20-30 minutes to the PA border. Days Inn about 1 exit from PA worked for me too but is a few more dollars I think. You're going to be in the $40-55 range per night. Give Mad River Outfitters a call for an updated report. Have a great time! That is an awesome place...steelhead alley.

If you haven't received a PM from Bowbuster or Snowmonkey I'd be surprised. I'd give Erie Outfitters a call as things have changed since I lived over there. Five years ago I'd have taken a road trip with ya and we'd crash at my Moms, but those days are over for me. Fish while you can. Here's a link that will help find access spots. Good luck and don't waste your time at Rocky River!!
