Anyone fish for carp in Rocky River in summer? I have some ideas on fly fishing for carp.See them in the shalows feeding all summer, but never hooked one(did'nt realy tried).Saw a video clip on flyfishing for carp in lake St. Clare Mishygan- they spot a feeding fish in the flats and throw a nymph at them.Anyone tried that in Rocky River?

I have been flyfishing for carp seriously for the last 7 or 8 years.Off and on for 13 befor that.I have found that brown wooleys dragged slow across the bottom barely moving enough to kick up a little mud are deadly.What is it you want to know? I do'nt know everything but i do have some experince with them and I will say they are a hard fish to catch.I had the charts relating water temps to carp behavior but I can't find it.I'll look more and post it if I find it.

I caught a bunch last summer on the Rock when I was home. I had my best luck on crazy charlies and gotcha's which I tied for my patrols in the south. Worked em' the same way Cornbread said, on the bottom and slow. Chart/white were my best, most fish came out of the faster water too.

Wat line weight rod do you use. As I wrote, I recently bought an 8 wt rod. It's a new St. croix avid, but is it suitable for carp? Do you stalk fish or do you blindcast for them? I'm askin' cuz I see them more than often(in summer). Shocked

A 5 or 6 will work fine. Most of the fish you'll run into will be in the 6-12lb range and following a big fish isn't much of a problem in the summer. But don't get me wrong, there are some hogs in there. The 8 will work fine and so will your steely gear. I was sight casting to fish in the pools and tail outs. There were spooky to, I went to 6lb flour for leaders and fished small flies. It's pretty cool watching them carp chase after a fly bring bounced on the bottom, I think that was better than the actual fight.

I use a 5 or 6 weight and cast well ahead of the fish so I do'nt spook them.I let the fly,usually a brown bugger settle to the bottem.Once the fish is within maybe 5 feet of it I'll give it just a little twitch to kick up a little mud.Usually the fish will take it on the second or third twitch.Set the hook fast becuase they will spit it out fastLet them have that first run,there going to take it anyhow,after that the fun starts.

The best method I have found was with spinning gear. Go buy a frozen bag of . shrimp, the real little ones. I usually cut them in half and bait the hook with that. A slip float and some split shot make the rig. Adjust to keep it right off the bottom. The carp go crazy for those shrimp. And you will also attrach smallmouth with that bait. I want to try this rig on the pin this year. Big carp on a pin should be fun.

I usually use a mix of ground-up fish pellets, corn, maggots, and bread for ground bait and loose feed, for my hook bait I use either maggots or corn fished under a float w/the pin and feed small portions every now and again.

Anyone try boilies for the carp???
