Good seeing Brian, Eric & Keith up from MI and converting over to swinging for their Steel. We had some awesome weather this past weekend 28C in Oct! just unheard of and taking it's toll on some of the Guests there unfortunately.
some highlights:
A traditional opening of a Piper (complete with howling dog ) and a cerimonial toast with a dram of Single Malt, opened the event Saturday morning.
Francois Blanchet from Loop showing how he uses Double-Hand casting techniques on Single-Handed & Switch rods. If ever there's an ad campaign for a Steelhead/Atlantic Salmon Bum, this guy has got to be it! Living outta his Jeep Cherokee on his way to B.C. to guide for the season and sleeping in a hamock is truely a mark of a fishing bum!. A great all round guy with a typical East Coast French-Canadian humour made listening to him a blast.
Andrew Toft of Carron-Jetstream won the casting competion (tally of 3 best casts), his furthest cast was 135'. James Chalmers (Andrew's counterpart) was second his furthest was 133', Andy Murray was third with consistant casts in the 116-120' range.
Gordon MacLeod's demonstration of Alexander Grant's mis-interpreted and rarely completely published "planet cast" along with some historical insight on the old Greenhart rods & Alexander Grant the man, wrapped up the event.
Neil Houlding of Loomis demonstrating Skagit casting (how did that Sage logo get on your dog?? )
Rick Whoorwood of Loomis with a demonstration geared towards beginners
Gary Champion was demonstrating Sunk line techniques
Chris Andersen from Sage, graciously taking time to spend with anyone who asked for help also added his presence & knowledge of the Olympic Penn & B.C. Systems.
One of the highlight's for me on Saturday was, watching PEte dig into his repetoire of tricks and while standing 30' or more up on high ground, and literally "unload" into both the Swing & B.C. casts and casually plunk a float 1/2 way across the Grand. More then one conversation stopped & praise was heard, when he did this repeatedly
Hats off to Neil & Rick for their hard work & organising of the Guest Speaker/Demonstrators, and here's to hoping for another Clave next year!
Andrew Toft loading up his 135' er
James Chalmers "havin a bit of a go at it"
Francois Blanchet hurls out a 90'
BrianD wondering why he hadn't packed along SPF 50 Sunscreen along with his assortment of Camera Lens' and Filters

nope, the casters were just out there for distance. No flies just a lot of groaning
PEte and I did sneak downstream Saturday evening for about an hour, nothing doing.
It was a great clave even though the turn out wasn't what they expected. Great casters! We did manage some good footage, shortly I'll put several clips up and perhaps Brian can throw up a few more pics.
