I just got in on a trip to the Dean in a few weeks. Since this is last minute, I'm really scrambling ot get a fly box together. Tying time is tough to come by, so I was hoping somebody could suggest some go-to patterns for various water conditions that I could focus my efforts on.

This is my first chance fishing west coast steel, so any patterns or technique advice you can give me is greatly appreciated.

Trip is the last week of July. We'll be fishing the lower river, below the canyon.

Much thanks,

Brian

Brian,

Popular wets on the lower Dean are Streamers in Red and Black, or a combo of both. Popular dries are usually heavily dressed for flotation, and visibility in a wide range of colours, and patterns. check this out

I have more info at home i'll post again when i get back from work.

We will all be looking forward to some great pics upon your return!!

Brian,
Local Dean River outfitters suggestions:

Wet flies- Orange, Red and Purple Popsickle, Egg sucking Leech, Squamish Poacher, Purple Peril, General Practitioner, Black Wooly Bugger, Polar Shrimp.

Dry flies- 1/0 Wallys Walker, Steelhead Bee.

Hope this helped shorten the chase.

Thanks a lot for the info guys. I'm slowly filling my box and can't wait to try em out.

Expect plenty of pics (hopefully with fish!) upon our return.

Thanks again!

Brian,

Here is what the local talent sent me for the trip. A scale would have been helpful to gauge their size. They are big flies! I have eveything in at least triplicate. Of course they will ride shotgun until the pin appetite has been filled...See ya soon...
