| Nothing wrong with Raven reel's, I find the Vectra to be the best of all the Ravens because of its weight, the Classic and the Eclipse are not bad but have some large tolerances around the spool which can let you mainline get under the spool. I would look at a reel with a lighter spool for the faster startup like a Vectra, Okuma, Purist 2021 or Islander. But the bottom line is get what you can afford and just have fun hooking fish. And dont judge a reel by how long it spins that has nothing to do with the performance of the reel just physics, heavy spool more mass longer spin time, easier to pick up line but more energy to getting it spinning. Light spool doesnt spin as long cause of the weight issue but starts up instantly. Have fun, Pinner |

I own a Raven Vectra SST. A couple words of caution regarding this reel. It doesn't come with an owner's manual, warranty card, or preventative maintenance guide. Don't ever lubricate the bearings!
Other than that, I love this reel. It is very smooth, looks great, holds a ton of line, and is built well. The start up inertia is a little bit on the high side, but you can control that either way with your pinky. It'll all come natural once you fish with it several times. The pick up on it is excellent. I especially enjoy the way you can put your finger in the spool and against the bar that spans the diameter of the reel and holds the actual handles. One or two good flicks on the average float distance is all it takes to respool before the next cast.

had a Raven SST Ti for about 4 months (Dec '03-Mar '04) it endured some of the harshest conditions i could throw at it. great startup rate and probably IMO the closest to Islander's Pin in terms of tolerances and finish. dirt was never really an issue, i'd just wipe it down by taking it apart after every outting.
pic (sorry on size )
