hello all,
im just learning this centerpin thing so bear with me. Im about to purchase my first centerpin reel (aventa) and was wondering what the difference is between bushings and bearings. Ive heard bearings are smoother but louder, and bushings are quieter but hard to break in...etc,etc. I was just wondering if any of you centrepin pros could give me a little helpful advice. btw, this is a nice site. |

The choice is basically personal preference. Bearing reels generally will out last bushings, but I really can not see anyone proving that one. Some bushing reels like the Tallisman reels series are virtually bulletproof with bushings.
As far as the Aventa, the price should be the same for both, so bearings are smoother and require a lot less start up pressure to get the reel spinning than the bushing version. In other words, it takes less weight, or effort to get the reel to spin while in the drift. So pick the one you feel comfortable with and get fishing. |

| I would go with the bearings over the bushings. I owned a Milner kingfisher that was a bushing reel and could not get rid of it quick enough, I have only handled a couple reels that I would buy that were bushing reels and they were very limited production reels. There are people out there that prefer bushing reels but all of the people that I know prefer bearings. |
