3.01.2008

Gang,
I've been super busy with a new job lately and have not been checking in to the forum nearly as frequently as I used to. I've spent some time here today and I'm deeply troubled about the level of discussion (or lack there of!) that's been taking place.

Quest's centerpin forum used to have some of the very best information and discussion on the net. Some really talented and intelligent fishermen discussed things in great detail and in very civilized ways. They shared new techniques or perspectives, and spent a considerable amount of time helping folks new to the sport.

Today, this forum seems dominated by a small minority hurling personal insults and meaningless banter. Folks who used to participate and add real value have left or now lurk in the shadows, driven away by the mostly low value or off topic discussions.

This has got to stop, and we need your help to fix things.

Stop the Crap!
First and foremost, we need to put an end to the crap taking place on the forum. Effective immediately, I'd ask for your help with the following:

Absolutely NO Insults - This one is simple, and one would think obvious. Just so we're clear, anyone posting an insult will be immediately banned for a month. A second offense and you'll be shown the door for good. Life is just to short guys...

No Meaningless Banter. No Unsubstantiated Opinions - This should be pretty clear too, but let me elaborate. Meaningless banter, such as "I agree with so and so" or "Me too" or just posting a bunch of smiley faces does nothing to elevate or contribute to the conversation. Please refrain! Unsubstantiated opinions are even worse, as they are not based on direct experience, potentially misleading, and not based on facts. This includes opinions on products which you have never personally used and information you're received second hand.

I will be deleting any post that falls into this category. If one of your posts disappears, please don't PM since time is at a premium for me at the moment. The deleted post would have fallen under one of the above categories. Anyone doing this excessively will be banned for 30 days, although I don't expect things will have to come to that.

Bring Back the Discussion!
If you've got a killer new technique, a serious question, or have been lurking in silence for a while, now would be a great time to post. Your help in getting the discussion back on track would be greatly appreciated. Please post away!

Thanks...
...to those of you who have exercised great patience or self control putting up with the crap that's been going on lately. And most of all, to each of you who continue to make Quest a great source of fishing knowledge.

Best,

Brian

I agree 100%. I joined to try and learn as much as possible. I'm not opposed to a little fun but let's not get carried away. I really look forward to some of the very interesting threads that appear here. Isn't that what this site is about???

Being a newbie , I'm not sure about exactly what Ron meant by a house cleaning but if it leads to a greater exchange of valuable and usefiul information and less snipeing, backbiting and useless banter how could you possibly disagree???? Do you visit this site to contribute or to see how critical, sarcastic or a$$$holic you can be? If your answer is "YES" to the latter, please find or start your own site.
I love to fish and prefer to exchange information and share knowledege with fellow enthusiasts.
Can't wait to see what some of the replies will be to this post. If I sturred up a hornets nest, it's time to get the bug spray out. Which camp are you in??????

I agree and as a new member as well I have seen the boards deteriorate in the just the short time I have been here. This forum is amazing, outstanding info in a wide variety of topics. I would love to see this continue. Perhaps the old timers will even come back.

I look forward to posting a lot more this fall when I really get back into the swing of things.

3.26.08 Update

I've hated to make good on the request for house cleaning, but sadly that's what it's come to. The rules are few and simple guys. Follow them!

To date I've had to put 1 member on a 30 day suspension and another shown the door for good. Really hate to be put in that position.

Again, my sincere thanks to the overwhelming majority that continue to make Quest an excellent fishing resource! And to think I may have taken y'all for granted all these years.

Best,

Brian
