Hey Guys. I am thinking about having my stanton sandblasted and anodized. According to the anodizer I need to know the exact aluminum the reel is made of or the reel could get ruined. Does anyone know what aluminum is used? Thanks.

Not sure if you got an account on the river runs board or the float board, but a a PM to Caddisfly on one of them board might be a good place to start. Larry has quite a bit of knowledge on the Stanton. I don't know if he frequents this board or not.
I hope this helps....

| A lot of the silver Stantons were non anodized. So you might not have to sandblast the reel. I had success previously anodizing one a deep copper colour, there's a post from a while somewhere in the archives.... Good luck. |

It won't need to be sandblasted either way.
The anodizing process starts with a cleaning bath and then etching then desmutting. By the time these three processes are complete the old anodizing will be gone and you will have bare aluminum that is ready to be reanodized, dyed and sealed. |

Word of caution dude. I had the same idea fo a bushing reel I had, after the required etching /anodizing process the tolerances were SEVERLY compromised and the reel SCRAP!!
Good Luck |

Back in the 80's my buddy reanodized his stanton to bronze and it was fine. I can see where there might be an issue with a bushing reel though.
Oh yeah, by buddies reel looks sweet!!! |
