FFM,
my original post wa from Sept 26, 2005 so the green was welcome at that time. Not so much NOW. Sorry about the current conditions, sounds like you guys are having a rough time of it up there lately.
Ron - thanks for the input.

| I night fish alot but only in the early fall late spring or summer. I have fished in the cold at night but results are very limited. I am not a big jig fisherman but come nightfall the bags go in the vest and out come the jigs. I use glow jigs with wigglers /waxies. I also use glow rubber. I have used those glow beads that ASM talks about actually tied in with spawn sacs before with good success. Key to successful night fishing is high numbers of fish that are pressured and slower water so they can see it. Fish often move very shallow where guys typically stand so fish all the water. I do it alot after work I can go home from work do some honey dues and then have dinner with the wife and off I go. I hit the end of the evening bite and fish for a few hours into the night. Do not fish places you have to do significant wading and don't do it alone if you are getting into the river at all. I had a good buddy fall in knee deep water while crossing a stream and get his foot caught in the logs. not a good situation in the day but easy to happen at night and a bad deal. He was able to backstroke through the hole and we packed up and went home but opened my eyes. Make sure you have at least 1 good head lamp so you can have it on while you walk droping your light in the river at night and have to do crossings in the dark is scarey no matter who you are or how well you know a river. |

| I fish a lot for steelhead at night in Pennsylvania tribs (late summer and early fall) with great success. I mostly use Mini-Foo jigs tipped with maggots under a float lighted with a glow stick. |
