Here's some more cool pics.

Here's an obviously different species of shark (by the dorsal fin). I know most of what I saw was nurse sharks but there where several of these other guys cruising as well. I haven't done the research to find out what they where yet. The nurse sharks rooted around in the grass and looked like carp with their tails up high. I wish they'd have been reds!

Oyster bars and seagrass - perfect inshore habitat. Also a good place to get out and take a pee.

Only I could catch a catfish on a topwater!! Actually this is the second one I've caught on top. They are very aggressive.

Looks like a good place to me. Unstrap the kayak, throw some rods in, grab the sunscreen and lets go.

Mango Smoothies and Gator Jerky? No thanks, I prefer Modelo Negro and a fried grouper sandwich. They spell about as god as mea.

Dolphins hunting for snook along the rocks. When they found one all hell would brake loose and there'd be fins and water flying everywhere. Watching them fish was more fun than catching your own.

This jack, about five pounds, burned off 75yds of 20# braid from my MH spin outfit before I had to crank the drag down and lower the rod. They are incredibly strong, and agressive. He exploded on a live finger mullet trying to jump out of the water to escape.

Good fun.

all the pics besides the dolphin (in this post) are from the west side of Pine Island near the "famous" Rolling Eyes Tarpon Lodge.

Just got back from the keys and had a few days of fun with a school of Jacks about that size on flies. Most fun I have ever had.

Cool Jacks are the worlds best "trash fish". Although I dont think anyone in their right mind should consider them a trash fish. Exclamation

Trash fish??? No way. Pound for pound they would smoke anything we have here in the GL region. I'd take 8lb Jack Crevalle over 8lb steelhead any day of the week, and it has nothing to do with the climate they live in Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Palm trees or snow covered Pines????????

Trash fish.......!?!?!?!?!..........not when they get into double digits. Here's one with a fella I shared a boat with in Costa Rica , a few winters ago, pushed the limits of a 10 wt poon outfit - into the backing twice !

Thanks for sharing pics!!! BT - that bruiser looks like he could put the hurt in you just lookin at him. Just what I needed on a squeaky snow evening in Michigan. I hate squeaky snow. Mad

I think the real "sports" look down on Jacks because of their, how shall we say it... agressive feeding habits, make them not as challenging to get a take as some other fish.

Basically, if Jacks were as finicky as Permit or Tarpon or Bones they'd be considered world class gamefish. Heaven knows eating quality has nothing to do with it (tarpon, bonefish). I think it's because usually if you can see them you can hook them. Landing them is an entirely different story! I think the Giant Trevally over in the Pacific (Midway Island and others) have overcome the trash classification with their sheer size and power. From what I've seen of them on tv, those things will beat the CR** out out you and your best gear.

My opinion... if it bites and pulls, I LIKE IT. Very Happy

PS - Here's my wife wife a a good sized inshore JC. I got her hooked up and then proceeded to lose and/or break off THREE on my 10wt. during the time it took her to land it.

Nothing wrong w/big Jacks . 5Lb'ers will double over #8-#9Wt's easily, while double digit ones make a #10Wt groan Twisted Evil

Winter is when the REALLY big ones (#20-#30Lb'ers)start showing up around Beaches & Causeways, Requiring #11 or #12Wt's, this also makes for easy shots, while doing the Beach/Surf bum style of fishing...

NICE FISH BT.

I did some offshore fishing and had a couple shots at AmberJack that were 15+, couldn't get them to go though.

I was using the T&T 12X12, was a freaking riot, can't wait for next year.
