The family and I are heading down the last week of March and we'll be in Orlando for MOST of our stay(boring ).
My question is where is a good place to go from there to do some shore fishing in salt water.I'm not looking to target any particular species, but any info on what I may catch and what I can use to catch them would be helpful.
I've never fished salt water before and I am excited to try it.(My wife forbids fishing during vacations. I don't listen well, though )
My heaviest fly rig is a 9ft 8wt. Could I use my centerpin for anything down there?
Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks,Axisgear. |

I was a lifeguard at Typhoon Lagoon in college and made the trip over to the east a bunch of times before working the afternoon shift.
Take the "BeeLine Expressway" straight out of Orlando/Disney area and head east (make sure you have change because it's a toll road.) You'll cross over the Indian River causeway first, then the Banana River causeway. I know there are fish all over down there but I had my best luck fishing the NW side of the Banana River bridge.
For easiest bites just get a couple popping corks, a heavy duty 1/8 oz jig, and a couple dozen shrimp. Make your leader 1-3' depending on water depth and just cast out and retrieve back using a stop and go method, with jerks every now and them. Or for really basic fishing just get some 1/4 or 1/8 oz jigs with 3 inch white or rootbeer twister tail grub. Fish em like you would for smallmouth.
That should get you bit by something. Or else you can just catch those bass that are all over every ditch down there. Good luck, take some pics, and if you more info just ask.
