Was able to get a few takers among the blow rivers! Most came on spawn and glow in the dark jigs with waxies. Caught a wide range of fish including a 16 1/2 brookie. Just curious if any one else has caught a brookie in OH water, I thought it was quite unepected.

Sounds like you had some fun out there today. I think that fish might actually be a Laker. Still a rare catch in the Erie tribs, but more probable than the Brookie, I would think. Nice catch at any rate!!!!!

Although the colors are washed out, it's certainly a brookie. I'll have to find out more info before I actually believe it was caught in Ohio waters, though. Incidentally, brook trout are listed as threatened in the state of Ohio.

| If that was caught where I suspect it was, it would be quite possible as the water raises, the fish could escape over the gates far upstream. Seen it before.

I suspect an escapee also especially since the "creek" in question would have been one of the few places fishable this weekend. I've caught some large brookies in PA after flood waters flushed 'em out of "private water".
If my hunch is right, the fish came from a place further west than most Ohio steelheading is done

Ditto. I tried to pull that info out of this fellow in a PM (as I serve on the Ohio Brook Trout Advisory Committee which directs mgt of this threatened species in the state...and was interested from that perspective), but he was understandably protective. If it was taken in that creek we all suspect it was then it's no big deal, as it wouldn't even be a native Ohio strain fish (it would have been stocked/washed through the gates as SB suspected). If it was taken elsewhere, though, that info would be very interesting. Incidentally, the single most successful Ohio strain brook trout introduction site in the entire state of Ohio flows completely within the Park District where I'm fisheries mgr (no fishing in this case).

Would that be the stream I'm thinking of??? If it is I can believe it (very cold water) eventhough the only fish I've ever seen in it are darters.
