This past weekend a small group representing a cross section of well rounded and experienced fishers from several GL states and Canada assembled to talk rod ideas w/G Loomis product devt folks (thanks to Craig from Erie Outfitters for lining up this opportunity w/Loomis). Although it's premature to dispense the specifics of any discussions this early, I will say some very exciting ideas were proposed which Loomis was receptive to. One observation that surprised me was how much consensus was reached among such a varied group of steelheaders on items ranging from handle configs to guides to blank characteristics. All invovled certainly can't wait to see just how the company decides to implement those ideas.
While in town, a few of the boys got together to fish on a rainy November morning and were rewarded w/plenty of typical Ohio chrome (sorry wild fish fans...very few of those here!). Tim, Buzz, and Steve...the bs'ing, fishing, and learning from ya'll was a great (albeit friggin wet!) experience. You are all great guys and equally great anglers. Can't wait to meet ya'll again later this fall (hopefully) for some "product testing"! BTW, how did you like that prank about the beer we schemed on you when you called me on your way out, Buzz... (not looking forward to your revenge for that!). Here are a few pics...
Quite abit of float fishing and Loomis rod design expertise assembled on one deck:
Hardcore float nut Tim shows us how to catch a nice chrome buck in the rain Wisconsin style:
We landed several "double headers" this morning...such as the fish Buzz and I display here. We landed a triple header w/Tim, as well (no pic though):
"Kang" Steve from Michigan City w/a fishy a bit smaller than the 24# steel he took back home:
There were a typical November mix of colorful and brigher fish:
Another Monkey-Buzz double:

Mike,
Thanks again for the invite, your hospitality is first class!
I can't wait to see what the boys in WA come up with, should be VERY interesting to say the least.
Great to fish with Tim and Steve as well, great anglers to be around.
We'll have to put a "field test" trip together this winter, those sticks will see a ton of water.
Have a good one and keep in touch!

great. just what we need. more technique specific rods. as if the rods we fish/build now suck. I'll guess i'll have to buy their spawn float rod, jig float rod, and fly float rods to go with my drop shot rod, crankbait rod, and spinnerbait rods. for any steelhead purists out there the last three are Loomis "bronzeback" series rods.
i love my specialty rods as much as the next guy but where will it end. i look forward to what you guys come up with. just don't get out of hand.

Nobody is making you buy them! BTW, these rods will be a definite step up in the Loomis line if all goes as planned, I can guarantee that.

| I have to agree with Snowmonkey. No one is making you do anything. Isn't it nice to have the option of a pre-fab specialty rod? This way if you get the itch to have another rod, you simply pick up the phone and call Cabelas. I can guarantee these rods will be like no others on the market.

i just mean i hope you dont come up with rods like a 1/64 - 1/80 jig rod designed to be fished on even number days with line ranging from 4.2-6.1# on tributaries with an average width no greater than 20 meters. The rods are great but you have to have shops or retailers (Cabelas) to want to carry them. other wise the general public cant/wont get to them.
I guess the consumers will judge your product. I've seen to to many great products go down the tubes because the ------------------------------------. never mind, you guys (Loomis) know how to market. Anxiuos to see the rods.

No noodles, these rods will have guts. There are enough cheap rods that are way too soft, these are going to be top end rods that can handle a range of water conditions. All of them will be rated either 6-10 or 8-12 pound to start, stuff that can handle big fish
They'll be in our hands soon and feedback will be forthcoming....
