What's the deal? I though fishing was some sort of Canadian heritage right or something... Or maybe you guys just don't like to fish n' tell? Guess it's up to the 'merican to prop up the Canadian forum.
Good news, no biblical floods this time! Last time I hit the Grand a dam ended up blowing.
Started the AM tracking down a pike lead my buddy had. Think we ended up fishing the wrong part of the river for a while. Tried a different spot and found some very "pikey" looking water, but really wasn't fly fishable from shore. Will be back one of these days with the pontoon, 'cause the water really looked good. Fished the Grand around Fergus Saturday afternoon. Bugs of all shapes and sizes coming off, mostly BWO's, Crane flies, Caddis, and Cahills. Fortunatly for me I have a secret weapon, a fishing buddy who hits the river a few days a week, who supplied me with the propper flies. Didn't exactly light em up, but got one and missed a few more. Buddy took a very nice wild fish around 14" or so. Hit a Cahill spinner fall that night and things just got stupid. We took two fish, a 20" and a 24". We did NOT get the biggest fish in the pool!
Fished a little lower Sunday and found a few risers. Missed a good one when he rolled on my fly and I stood there like a idiot watching the 12" fish I was casting to become a 18-20"er. Next time... Headed to another nearby jewel of a river to hunt some wild brookies and soak up the sun. Low clear water had us pretty much screwed, but damn was it nice to get out in such a beautiful place.
Never been much of a dry fly guy, but I think I'll be heading back soon. 20" browns inhaling spinners like a pack of gluttonous pigs is more than I can resist!
Best,
