If I am not mistaken it is now illegal in all border states on the US side to sell trout eggs. So you must get them for yourself.
Now I am not saying this to be rude nor am I in any way accusing anyone on here the following, but the last time I was at Burt dam in NY, I witnessed some of the most disgusting behavior from a group of Canadians that were there just to get Brown roe. The lined, with their pin a limit each person, about 5 or 6 people times 3 fish a piece. I did not see one of them caught legally, that was mainly because they were not very well at actually catching them legally. They then went up into the woods about a 100 or so yards and stripped the eggs and left the fish. Now had I know that they were doing this BEFORE they went into the woods, I would have flatened all of the tires on their cars so they could not go anywhere until I called the law, but if anyone knows of peopl that do this, please keep them in Canada, we have enough US citizens also doing this and we need to jail all people who do this.
I am a conservationist and I kept in 3 days at Burt Dam, 3 brown trout between me and my friend that was there total, we got almost 1 gallon of roe and we ate the browns for dinner the following week. I might add they were rather tasty. I got enough eggs to make thousands of sacs and I have no idea how anyone can go through so many eggs.
Teach these people how to catch fish first, I tried but they would not listen, they just cursed me and got really mad, because me and my friend caught literally a hundred each in 3 days. I was using Sglon F pink 8lb on a spinning reel, with 4 pound Super FC Sniper leader and a Drennan 3 no.4 Insert Crystal Waggler and single salmon eggs on a size 16, B983 Kamasan. WE had no trouble getting bites and landing fish. The water was low and gin clear and we were fishing about 5 foot of water and it was loaded with Female browns.
So if you come to the US to get browns, match the water conditions and the tackle to get the fish to bite like I did. It is more fun to hook up 30 fish legally than a handful illegally. Tightlines. |
