I want to know what folks are using Centerpins to catch. I know they work for trout and smallmouth but what about Walleye during the river runs. What about using them from piers or bridges or saltwater tidal flows?
It sure seems like centerpins are stuck in a paradign and users are not having enough fun trying new species.
Dang I wish I had more time to fish! |

We use them off the piers in Lake Michigan for Salmon & steelhead. As long as the boats aren't getting to close, you can just let your rig keep going out with the current.
You can rail on Catfish with a pin and cutbait or shrimp under a float.
Walleye, never actually fished for eyes with one, but I know it would work.
MPsteelheader took his pin down to Florida and went out on one of those charter boats down there where everyone just drops their stuff off the side of the boat. Mark was letting his rig go back up towards the reef with the current and was the only one hooking fish. If I remember right he got his butt handed to him by some monster fish ... Wish I could of been there to see that.
Of course they work great for Carp too... |

Steelhead, Salmon (all 5 species), trout, Carp .
Big Chinook to 50 pounds are very fun on the pin using a float and bait, really lets the clicker sing .

That's a great picture no matter what the REEL story is.
What kind of lure could you use for Walleye or do you have to use live bait? It seems like only being able to drift is limitting your choices. |

They are a member of the whitefish family that grows up to 50#
They are also called sheefish and tarpon of the tundra.
They exist in only 5 drainages in the world with the world record caught in the Kobuk River in North West Alaska.
Here's a couple of shots from the Anderson River in the North West Territories.

Drifter,
That's a new one for me too and looks like a good fighter.
I'll put it down as another fish I'd like to catch. |

| Head, that is hands down one of the top pics I have seen hooked up with a pin. Just gotta ask... What rod, line , and weight of fish on the other end? |
