Hello everyone! I have been trying to figure out where to fish this weekend. The fishing has been the best at the Grand river at Sixth street in Grand Rapids. I talked to three different people that were there last week. One guy that I talked to caught 15 fish and had a number of other fish on. Another guy I talked to ended up with 8 but he didn't get there early enough.
If you want to slam you have to get your boat up by the Ice breaker at or before day light. The fishing has been great and I know how it's hard to get a report unless your in the cool guys club.
The manistee has been good but the fishing has slowed down because of the cold weather at night. Most guides are only averaging 5 fish right now. Crying or Very sad
There are a number of other rivers that are producing fish if you want the inside pm me and I'll give you the inside.

P.S. I did a free steelhead fly tying demonstration for kids at the Flint River Valley Steelheaders show. People that Care about our fishery need to share it and promote it. The more people that love it the safer it will be in the future! Here are some pics from the show!

how is the easiest way to put this. promotion and conservation tend to pull different ways from one another. promotion leads to greed, while greed leads to dollar signs. as well it does too leave a by-product of degradation. degradation is the opposite of conservation. unfortunately i've seen it in person too many times Wink

Conservation has been part of my life since I joined my first conservation club in 1993 when I was just 13 years old. As long as your teaching people the right way to do things there is nothing wrong with it/ the more people that care about our fishery's the more tax dollars will go into protecting it. If only 100 people fished for steel in michigan then you wouldn't have tax dollars to support our fishery.
Unfortunatley most people that promote conservation are also self promoting for example- almost all conservation talk comes from guides in this state and most of the time it's while doing there job. Is this done for greed or degradation? No most of the time it's just because they care about the conservation and it's a great opportunity to talk about it while on the job(fishing) It's not for money or greed.
I talk about conservation while doing my job or on the river or where ever I am. I don't know what your trying to say Mpsteel? Why don't you just come out and say it.

No actually that was a quote from Mark Chmura and Paul Schalfley. It's not even began yet on the spring. I'll let them know you think there full of sh##.

degradation is the deterioration of the environment through depletion of resources such as air, water and soil; the destruction of ecosystems and the extinction of wildlife.
How the h@%% does me showing some kids how to tie flies lead to this? Laughing

I thought those guys stuck to the bigriver, this is a grand thread. I fish the same water as those guys in the fall/winter and this was definately not the best year up there since 1980. Laughing I did hear about some good days that one of those guys had but that was a daily average for a buddy and I a few years ago so keep the lies to yourself. I am done with this thread so if you have anything else to spew just send it over via PM.

Treven ,
Get off it man.........anyone in this state thats know anything about the steelhead run in the Grand knows that its a pretty good bet that the fishing is pretty damn good by this time of March....if your not fishing there then why the hell are you getting so jacked up about what he wrote.....it wasnt even his report....it was third party information that he was posting to possibly help out someone else that wanted to go.....why are you worried anyway , a fisherman as good as you should be able to catch lots of fish no matter what the situation is or how many people are there Rolling Eyes (excuse me if I just laughed).....oh , and one other thing what the hell is up with the "what goes around comes around" statement?......what , are you trying to scare someone from posting with a so-called threat of some sort?....... well , let me write you something that I heard and that I want you to remember the next time I see you "think before you type" man...but anyway other than that I hope everyone has a great spring and maybe i'll see you on the river!
