Air bubbles manufactured in the line are what makes it float, so keeping it clean is all you need to do. I've never been one to clean it after ever trip (although that prob wouldn't be a bad idea w/a mild cleaner). A moist cloth is fine for regular cleaning, and ArmorAll does work well (keeps the line slick so it slide through the guides nicely, too). When I took up fly fishing a little over 20 years ago lots of guys swore by using mild Ivory soap for this purpose, for what that's worth.
