Very nice.... I'm still waiting on my 5" Rootbeer.
BTW I noticed you are in the Boardman area, I grew up one block away from the High School (graduated in 93'), now living in Canfield. Nice to see some pinners from the area.

Hi all, new to the board but had something to add here... this is a center pin design me and my buddy are currently having machined...
5.5 inch O.D. - fixed and moving bodies are CNC'D from Magnesium.
So far having 2 proto-types assembled for field evaluation.
Hopefully some real pictures to follow.

You might want to change the name.
That one is already taken.

No disrespect intended, however it looks like a dartboard.

I think it looks good, not a whole lot of porting options left. I'd like to see the back plate. Not really up on my metals however would flex be an issue with the magnesium spool? Pm me if you like, I'd like to get my hands on one.

Thanks for the comments... never really noticed the "dart board" pattern. I was just trying to come up with a pattern that could be done on a conventional mill or an NC machine - I was lucky enough to have a guy help me who was interested in the project to do the programing for me and do the cutouts on a CNC. The rest was done on a conventional lathe.
Some of the design parameters were borrowed from well know and established aluminum reels that are on the market, most of those were between 4 - 5 inch diameter... I ended up going to 5.5 inch and I made the spool shallow so it does not require too much backing line if any.
This design will be as stiff as those aluminum reels but lighter still because of the use of magnesium on the biggest components. I still have yet to get the fixed spool from my NC guy who is doing the engraving... then I have to fit the bearings and assemble it - don't know the "reel" weight till then.
I only made 2 prototype so far - both are spoken for and we will be doing some testing come spring... I am also going to make a 3 inch dia model without the "dart board" pattern.
Cheers.
