Download, Print and Mail Your Letters! The three letters below to the USFS, DEQ, and Govenor are provided as downloadable Word documents (.DOC). Please feel free to use the letters as is, modify them as you see fit, or write your own letter. Just make sure to write! It's important that you add your name and address to the bottom of each letter so that your feelings and opinions are attributed properly and the recipient has an opportunity to respond. Your address will also serve to show just how broad and deep the concern is for the Au Sable River watershed.

The first letter is to Michael J. Weber, District Ranger at the USFS Mio Ranger Station. It is the Forest Service that issues the lease, and we only have untill June 30, 2003 to write in and have our opinions incorporated into the decision! Download the letter

The second letter is to Harold R. Fitch of the DEQ. State law requires a Michigan Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) drilling permit befor the project can begin. Mr. Fitch is the head of the Geological and Land Management Division, which is in charge of issuing this permit. Download the letter

The final letter is to Governor Jennifer M. Granholm. As the Governor of Michigan, Mrs. Granholm is the highest authority in the state, and able to exert influence at both the state and federal level. Part of her recent campaign was to protect Michigan's environment. Let's make sure she's fully aware of this situation and give her the opportunity to make good on her promise. Download the letter
