Pere Marquette River Access
The "PM" has numerous public access sites throughout the river system. Many of these are controlled by the United States Forest Service (USFS) and have special regulations that must be followed. In addition to the USFS access sites there are also MI DNR, private and state sites available for use.
Some of these provide amenities such as restroom facilities, campgrounds, boat launches, and paved roads/parking; others consist of nothing but a dirt road and small parking area. Please keep in mind that most are seasonal use only and are not maintained once winter weather sets in; at times, access can be marginal at best. During the summer months all of the sites can be driven into with the family sedan, although it may be a bit bumpy, especially following a good rain. After the first good series of snows a 4 wheel drive is recommended. At times, access to a site such as Rainbow Rapids is not recommended due to the steep incline of the road. Other sites such as Green Cottage are easily accessible year-round. Stop by one of the local tackle shops for current conditions.
