Manufacturer's Description:
"Specially designed for the big-water requirements of steelhead and salmon fly anglers, the Steelhead Taper is the ultimate choice for long-distance line control, allowing mending and roll casting up to 70'. Unlike other long-belly fly lines, Mastery Series Steelhead has a specifically designed taper that best meets the unique needs of big water anglers:
- Longer head for increased distance
- Turns over big flies with ease
- Longer front taper delays turnover
- Extended rear taper facilitates long-distance mending and pickups
- Rear taper also increases your ability to carry and control more line in the air
- Stays supple in cold steelhead water
Specifications: Steelhead Tapers come in Mist Green only and are 105' in length.
| Weight | Tip | Front Taper | Belly | Rear Taper | Total Head Length | Running Line |

| 7 | .5' | 7' | 30' | 25' | 62' | 43' |
| 8 | .5' | 7.5' | 30.5' | 25' | 63' | 42' |

First Impression:
The Steelhead Taper is very easy to cast, and matched up with my rod's line weight designation very well. The lines large head made casting big indicators easy, even with a ton of split shot.

Performance:
Simply a great performing fly line for indicator fishing and roll casting at distance.
Price:
Another price increase for '04. At $60+ it's at the top end of fly lines.
Construction/Quality:
Not too bad, this line typically lasts me about 2 years. I'm guessing with a little more "TLC" I might get one more out of them, but I doubt it. The coating on the running line cracks after about 3 years and the coating on the lines head starts to "chunk off" many times after about 2.
Design:
Nice design, roll casts heavily weighted strike indicators very well. There's no problem roll casting at 40+' and it overhead casts well also. About the only modification most anglers do to this line is to cut back part of the front taper. It's a little light and quickly dissipates energy when trying to check your indicator.
Plus / Minus:

| Cold Weather Performance | Front Taper |
Conclusions:
Overall, a great fly line if you like to toss heavy indicators or flies. It stays supple and performs well even in the coldest of weather.
